Ganga Expressway: Latest News, Route Map, & Status Update
The Ganga Expressway is an aspirational project to improve connectivity to the interior regions of Uttar Pradesh. This expressway is to be built in two phases and this will be one of the longest expressways when both phases are completed. The Ganga Expressway Length is 602 km and it will pass through several districts between Meerut and Prayagraj, via Varanasi.
The developers of this expressway project are instructed by the UP government to complete the work by December 2024 so that the expressway can made operational before the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025.
However, earlier the project was expected to be completed by the end of 2025 but Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the senior officials to complete the work on the Ganga Expressway project and now the Ganga Expressway completion date is December 2024 so that the devotees can get the benefits of the expressway during the Prayagraj Kumbh in 2025.
· Some reports shared on Ganga Expressway show that the Ganga Expressway project will be constructed for INR 36,000 crores and its construction would require 6,556 hectares of land.
· The state cabinet gave its nod to the Ganga Expressway Project on September 2, 2021, a greenfield, six-lane expressway project.
The foundation stone for this 602-km long, six-lane Gange Expressway was laid on December 18, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh recently said that many developments along the Ganga Expressway route will take place, including –
- Some industrial clusters,
- An airstrip
- Helipads for emergency landings, and
- Operation of air ambulances,
- Public facilities like trauma centers.
He further added that around 96 percent of the total required land of 7,386 hectares of 518-gram panchayats had been acquired for this Ganga expressway highway project.
Impact of Ganga Expressway on Real Estate
The development of the Ganga Expressway is going to have a major impact on real estate in Delhi NCR including the real estate in Noida as it is being developed to improve connectivity across regions. It will boost real estate opportunities for residential projects, commercial projects, and retail.
Ganga Expressway Connectivity with Yamuna Expressway and Jewar Airport
The plan to connect Ganga Expressway to Noida International Airport also known as Jewar Airport via Yamuna Expressway decided by Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority has already been approved and the construction work is expected to start soon for the same.
This initiative will enhance the connectivity of Jewar Airport with the areas located along the Ganga Expressway. However, this construction will comprise the construction of an 83 km long link road that will connect the Ganga Expressway to the Yamuna Expressway. This road will also feature an interchange in Bulandshahar that will provide direct connectivity with Jewar Airport
Ganga Expressway Latest News and Current Status
February 6, 2024: The Uttar Pradesh government announced the budget outlay for this key infrastructural project with an allocation of INR 2057.76 crores for the Ganga Expressway. This allocation took place during the annual Budget for 2024-25 presented on February 5, 2024. However, the Ganga Expressway's new update is that the government is planning to make the expressway operational before the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela, 2025.
May 8, 2023: The Uttar Pradesh government is also planning to develop industrial clusters along the Ganga expressway. UPEIDA said that the industrial clusters will also be developed along all the districts through which the Ganga expressway of 602 km length will pass. However, the process of identifying the locations in which the industrial clusters will be developed has already begun. Some of the key developments that will be established along the Ganga Expressway include –
- Pharma parks,
- Textile parks,
- Plastic molding units,
- Industrial units of other sectors.
What is the Latest Update on the Ganga Expressway?
As per the officials involved in Ganga Expressway Phase 1 and Ganga Expressway Phase 2 development, there is not much time left for the commencement of the Ganga Expressway. As soon as the flyover being built in Mangraula is completed, the vehicles will start running on the Ganga Expressway. The officials also said that preparations are being made to run vehicles on the Ganga Expressway on the occasion of the inauguration of Mahakumbh to be held in Prayagraj.
About 66 days are left for the Kumbh Mela to start and so far about 80 percent work on the Ganga Expressway in Mangraula has been completed. However, Mangraula is the only place in the district where the work of constructing the Ganga Expressway and roundabout is incomplete. This is because, in Mangraula, the construction of the expressway is going on rapidly. And, as we said, about 80 percent of work on the expressway has also been completed and preparations are being made to make the Ganga Expressway operational before the start of the Kumbh Mela in 2025.
Ganga Expressway Route Map
As per a statement given by the Uttar Pradesh government on December 14, 2021, more than half of the Ganga Expressway will pass through the western UP areas including Ganga Expressway major cities. Let’s have a look at the Ganga Expressway Village List below -

- Sambhal,
- Budaun and,
- Shahjahanpur districts.
However, the Ganga Expressway Phase 2 route map shows that it will connect the Eastern UP to the Western UP and the NCR. This 602-km-long expressway will be constructed in two phases which will start near Bijauli village in Meerut and will connect up to Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. Not only that, but the Ganga Expressway will cover numerous districts while passing through major cities and villages which we have mentioned in the list above. The Ganga Expressway Phase 1 and Ganga Expressway Phase 2 village list includes 519 villages in total. And, the Ganga Expressway district list consists of 12 districts.
