Meerut to Ghaziabad in 30 Minutes: Rapid Rail Services May Start Next Week
The "Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Corridor" is about to be extended from Sahibabad to Meerut South by the end of June which will further enhance the connectivity between Ghaziabad and Meerut. This is an 8 km extension that has been approved by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety and has been introduced to cut travel time to 30 minutes.
This project has 13 Meerut stations in total and it provides substantial benefits for the students and commuters while promising an upgrade in travel efficiency. This comes as a piece of good news for NCR commuters as the trains on India's first Namo Bharat (rapid rail) corridor will soon be operational from Sahibabad to Meerut South.
Moreover, the reports by the “Times of India” say that the Rapid Rail service between the two important cities of Ghaziabad and Meerut will start by the end of June. This clearance for the third section of the corridor has arrived by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The third section of the corridor will run from Modinagar North to Meerut South.
More About the Sahibabad-Meerut South Corridor Expansion
The Sahibabad-Meerut South Corridor Expansion is the newly approved 8 km section of the rapid Rail Services which will increase the operational span of the rapid rail to 42km. After this expansion, the rapid rail services will cover more than half of the planned 80 km long Delhi-Meerut corridor which is set for completion by mid of 2025.
However, the station named “Meerut South Rapid Rail Station” marks the first station in the rapid rail corridor of Meerut district. This will also integrate the metro services and as we mentioned earlier, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail corridor features 13 stations in Meerut of which four designated stations will be for rapid rail and the remaining nine stations will be there for the local metro system.
Not just that but the NCRTC has also established the largest parking facility of the State at the station which will cover a total land area of 13,000 square meters and will be able to accommodate 1,200 vehicles.
The Benefits of Sahibabad-Meerut South Corridor Expansion
The students and daily commuters benefitted significantly from the rapid rail corridor. In a survey, a student from MMH College in Ghaziabad who is a resident of Partapur said that the rapid rail operations to Meerut is good news for us because it will save us time.
Ghaziabad and Meerut are two important cities and both of these cities are industrial and educational hubs. However, despite being industrial and educational hubs, these cities had limited commuting options before the operations of rapid rail started. She further added that the rapid rail has changed a lot for students like us, and I hope that the rapid rail services will reach our doorsteps in the days ahead.
One of the Meerut residents who commutes to Delhi for work also shared his improved travel experience by saying, I used to take a private vehicle to reach my workplace which was costing me a lot. But now I park my bike at Modinagar South Station’s parking lot and take the rapid rail to reach my workplace over the past few months after the rapid rail operations started. And, if the rapid rail corridor is getting operational up to Meerut South then it will further reduce the commuting time and it will be a hassle-free ride for everyone like me.
